This Old Man Announces Debut Upbeat COVID-19 Inspired Hip Hop Album ‘Bucket List’
Melbourne, VIC, Release: November 30 2020.
THIS OLD MAN
announces his debut album BUCKET LIST, featuring the track ‘Clarity,’ (Top 10 Triple J Unearthed National Hip Hop Chart) a song bringing back that old-school, get-out-of-your-chair sound that’s so badly needed in these COVID-19 lockdown times.
THIS OLD MAN isn’t young, but he is new to the music scene. A hip-hop fan from way back, Brenton Otte – the man behind T.O.M – has been recording BUCKET LIST over the past three years from his shed. In between dad duties and his nine-to-five corporate job, the father of two young kids has channelled his lockdown frustrations into music, finally finding the time to finish his debut album.
With Melbourne still locked down, THIS OLD MAN plans to release the album via Facebook Live, and, if all goes well, will tour in 2021, pandemic pending.
Composed of 10 tracks, BUCKET LIST talks about everything from politics to having a dog and being a Dad, to looking after your mental health. ‘Imagine That’ raps to the listener who has woken up in 2055 with Pauline Hanson as PM while ‘The Hound’ raps from the perspective of dog with all the associated dog-life challenges.
‘Getting Any Better’ (also featured in the top 10 of the Triple J Unearthed National Hip Hop Chart) is all about the energy his six-year-old daughter exudes (and that we’d all like to rediscover), while ‘Clarity’ captures the drive toward purpose we glimpse from time to time.
With an old-school 90’s Hip Hop sound with lyrics capturing the deeper side of hip-hop,
THIS OLD MAN combines the sounds and samples of the 90s with lyrics relevant to today.
